Personal Development: The first step towards a successful business

Personal Development: The first step towards a successful business

Article by Jenny Solidum

As per statistics, 96% of entrepreneurs fail within the first 10 years of business. And I have been one of them in the past. Why? Why does this happen? Why is it that so many of them do not make the cut? There are several reasons, the first of which I have highlighted in this article. That is Personal development.

Majority of entrepreneurs work hard on their business initially, lose steam as time passes on, get bogged down by the challenges and as a result, quit. The reason generally given is that the entrepreneur did not work hard enough on the business. Well, I am here to say that it is a misconception.

The only way things are going to change for you, as an entrepreneur is when YOU change. If you keep on running the business the way you currently are, you will continue producing the same results. So what should you do? Simple! Work harder on YOURSELF than you do on the business. That is the mantra, if you will.

Success is a by-product (and not a result) of developing yourself above and beyond where you currently stand. How do you do that? These are some of the methods, which I found to be quite effective:

1. Read books: Read as many books as possible. I would confine myself to self-help books, as much as possible. If you have a very mobile lifestyle, then listen to Audio Books while traveling.

2. Attend Seminars: Make sure that you regularly attend seminars from successful personalities. I would recommend webinars and teleseminars as a must-have in your development arsenal

3. Study other successful individuals/entrepreneurs: This is a good way to understand how other successful entrepreneurs think and act. This adds another perspective to your outlook on business

It is of no point to just learn from the above and not implement it in your life. I have always believed that, ‘Success comes from not what you do, it is what you do DAILY’. So, implement what you learn into your daily life, and then see the change it brings within you.

If you want to change the results you get from your business, remember to work harder on YOURSELF that you do on your business.

Good Luck.
